WINDOW

CONNECTING LOVED ONES

 WINDOW

WINNER - OUSTANDING ACHIEVEMENET IN DESIGN | SAMSUNG RESEARCH (2014)

WINDOW IS A NEXT-GENERATION TELEPRESENCE DEVICE. THROUGH THIS VIBRANT 45” SCREEN YOUR SPACES WILL EXPAND TO BE ALWAYS CONNECTED TO THE PEOPLE THAT YOU LOVE.

A PORTAL BETWEEN HOMES

With family and friends in distant cities and time zones, our relationships have become global. Although current technology allows quick connections, these interactions lack the depth and emotional connection of sharing a space.

The Window bridges homes and families through a vivid, persistent portal. With nuanced awareness, privacy and connnective features, it brightens spaces and deepens our cherished relationships.

CONCEPT AND
USE CASES

Through quick sketches, personas and user stories, we outlined the needs and identified areas of opportunity. These created a clear thesis and north star. By focusing on a small set of intimate connections and meaningful interactions we found a sweet spot that social media and existing telecommunications failed to address.

PROTOTYPING

We created three full-scale prototypes that leveraged different form factors and input methods. Each evolution refined our interaction modalities and introduced more subtle forms of privacy and user connection.

IN-HOME
USER STUDIES

Window prototypes were placed in user’s homes for multiple weeks and connect to remote loved ones. Through this process we learned comfort levels and privacy thresholds that fed back into our designs. Our second screen interface and co-joined activities increased engagement and encouraged ongoing interactions for participants.
